Hospice Care in Carlsbad, CA

Comfort, Dignity, and Familiar Faces — Right Here at Home

When a loved one enters the final chapter of their life, where they spend that time matters more than almost anything else. At Coastal Care Homes, residents who need hospice support don't have to move to an unfamiliar facility or hospital room. They stay right here — in a home they know, surrounded by caregivers who know them — while a licensed hospice team comes to them.

What Is Hospice Care, and How Does It Work at Our Homes?

Hospice is a specialized type of care focused on comfort, dignity, and quality of life for individuals with a terminal illness or life-limiting condition. It shifts the focus from curative treatment to compassionate support — for both the resident and their family.

At Coastal Care Homes, hospice care works as a partnership. We continue providing the residential care, meals, personal assistance, and around-the-clock staffing your loved one already receives. A licensed hospice agency of your family's choosing sends their own team — nurses, social workers, chaplains, and aides — directly to our home on a regular schedule to provide medical oversight, pain management, and emotional support.

This means your loved one receives two levels of care simultaneously, in one familiar, peaceful place.

Why Families Choose to Stay With Us During Hospice

Continuity matters at the end of life. Familiar faces, familiar routines, and a familiar environment bring genuine comfort to someone who is dying — and to the family members sitting with them. Moving to a hospital or skilled nursing facility during this time disrupts everything and adds unnecessary stress.

Our small 6-bed homes offer something that larger facilities genuinely cannot: personal presence.

Our caregivers know your loved one. They know how they take their tea, what music they love, and what brings them peace. That doesn't stop when hospice begins — it becomes even more important.

Working With Your Hospice Agency

We work with all licensed hospice agencies serving the Carlsbad and North County San Diego area. If your loved one is already enrolled with a hospice provider, we will coordinate directly with their team. If you haven't yet selected an agency, we're happy to share the names of hospice providers our residents and families have had positive experiences with — without any obligation or referral arrangement.

The hospice team typically provides:

  • Registered nurse visits on a scheduled and as-needed basis
  • Physician oversight and pain management
  • Social worker support for family and resident
  • Chaplain or spiritual care services
  • Hospice aide visits for additional personal care
  • Medical equipment such as a hospital bed, wheelchair, or oxygen
  • Medications related to the terminal diagnosis

Medical equipment and some medications are typically covered by Medicare Part A under the hospice benefit.

A Note About Medicare and Hospice

Most people who qualify for hospice care are eligible for the Medicare Hospice Benefit, which covers the cost of the hospice agency's services — including nursing visits, medications related to the terminal diagnosis, medical equipment, and counseling.

Important: The Medicare Hospice Benefit does not cover the cost of residential care itself (room, board, and personal care), which continues at your regular monthly rate with us.

We're happy to walk you through how this works during a call or visit so there are no surprises.

Respite Care

We also offer short-term respite stays for families who are caring for a loved one at home during hospice and need a temporary break. If you need a few days or weeks of professional care while you rest and recover, we may be able to accommodate your loved one on a short-term basis depending on availability.

Call us to discuss your situation.
